7. Siding With The Avengers - Avengers Vs. X-Men
For a while, you couldn't escape Wolverine. Not only was Logan on the X-Men, he found himself dividing his time between the Avengers, X-Force, and his own solo series. That's a lot of different interests and stories, and - ignoring discourse surrounding the character's overuse for just a second - more importantly a lot of allegiances.
It was all meant to come to ahead during the climactic Avengers Vs. X-Men series from the start of the decade, an event that promised to fracture the X-Men even further by leaving Logan in the midst of a major decision.
Does he side with his old allies regardless of his own personal beliefs on the issue stirring them to conflict? Or does he stand by his beliefs and work alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes? It was a tricky question, and the solution was anything if not surprising.
Rather than side with his mutant siblings, Logan instead opts to stick with the Avengers. He has his reasons, namely the fact that he's seen the damage that the Phoenix has done in the past and his past disagreements with Cyclops, but it was still a little shocking all the same. Wolverine even gets double crossed by the Avengers later on in the story too, illustrating the character's commitment to his own values.
