12 Most Iconic Battles In Comics
4. Flash vs. Anti-Monitor
From: Crisis on the Infinite Earth #8
Marv Wolfman and George Perez's epic 1985 miniseries, Crisis on the Infinite Earths, is considered by many to be the standard-bearer for major comic book crossover events. The miniseries stars nearly all of DC's A-list heroes as they attempt to save the multiverse against the evil Anti-Monitor.
While Crisis is filled with countless memorable moments, none is more iconic than the death of Barry Allen, aka the Flash, a hero whose first appearance in 1956 is considered the unofficial dawn of the Silver Age of comics. Allen dies while making the ultimate sacrifice in the DC Universe's battle against the Anti-Monitor.
While being held captive in Crisis #8, he discovers the Anti-Monitors highly destructive anti-matter canon. Flash uses his trademark speed to create a vortex around the canon, sucking out all of its anti-matter energy but destroying his own body in the process. The visual of the Flash's body disappearing into dust is considered one of the most shocking moments in comic book history. Plus, Allen's death lasted for nearly 23 years - an eternity in the comic book industry.
