12 Most Iconic Battles In Comics

4. Flash vs. Anti-Monitor

From: Crisis on the Infinite Earth #8

Marv Wolfman and George Perez€™'s epic 1985 miniseries, Crisis on the Infinite Earths, is considered by many to be the standard-bearer for major comic book crossover events. The miniseries stars nearly all of DC€™'s A-list heroes as they attempt to save the multiverse against the evil Anti-Monitor.

While Crisis is filled with countless memorable moments, none is more iconic than the death of Barry Allen, aka the Flash, a hero whose first appearance in 1956 is considered the unofficial dawn of the Silver Age of comics. Allen dies while making the ultimate sacrifice in the DC Universe€™'s battle against the Anti-Monitor.

While being held captive in Crisis #8, he discovers the Anti-Monitor€™s highly destructive anti-matter canon. Flash uses his trademark speed to create a vortex around the canon, sucking out all of its anti-matter energy but destroying his own body in the process. The visual of the Flash'€™s body disappearing into dust is considered one of the most shocking moments in comic book history. Plus, Allen'€™s death lasted for nearly 23 years -€“ an eternity in the comic book industry.
