The New Mutants have earned this greatest of honours simply through its roster. For such a small group, the New Mutants are incredibly diverse - featuring characters with powers ranging from black magic to lycanthropy to turning into a human rocket.

It's also diverse in the more traditional sense by depicting characters of different nationalities and cultures, including one mechanical alien.

These factors effectively make the New Mutants a far more modern take on the original X-Men, which is incredibly fitting given the name is derived from Stan Lee's original idea for the X-Men's name, The Mutants.

Now if only the darn movie could come out.
