10. Mickey Rourke - The Thin Red Line
You cant really do a list on this topic without Terrence Malick coming up, since he has a bad habit of severely trimming or cutting big stars out of his movies. The Thin Red Line was an extreme case with actors like Gary Oldman, Viggo Mortensen and Billy Bob Thornton winding up on the edit bay floor. Poor Adrian Brody went to the premiere thinking he was the lead character, only to find himself reduced to a near mute background role instead. Mickey Rourkes career had pretty much derailed by the nineties, but he felt his emotional performance as a sniper might get people to take notice again. He said the part was some of the best work hes ever done, but he too felt victim to Malicks overzealous editing. Rourke also believes this decision had nothing to do with Malick, and that certain outside parties (Rourke has made lots of enemies over the years) led to his scenes being removed.
