10 Awful Movie Remakes With Silver Linings You Can't Ignore

9. Halloween

The Movie: Given that virtually every horror classic under the sun has ended up being remade at one point or another it was inevitable that John Carpenter's original slasher would wind up on our screens once again. Rob Zombie seemed like as good a choice as any for director, having established his gross-out gore and uncompromisingly violent credentials with House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects. Even though Zombie was given the thumbs up from Carpenter to take his remake/reimagining in whichever direction he saw fit, adding in a backstory and exploring what drove Michael Meyers to go on his killing spree was something of a let down, as admirable as it may have been in theory. The Silver Lining: Rob Zombie clearly wanted to emphasize the violence over Carpenter's focus on tension and a foreboding sense of dread, and while this has justifiably earned him more than a few critics, at least his handling of the violence is visceral and powerful. Given his prior filmography such uncompromising brutality should have been a given, and in this respect the remake certainly delivers.
