5. It's Alive - Frankenstein

Bringing the Creature to life in 1931's Frankenstein isn't just one of the most memorable moments in the film, but among the most iconic scenes in cinema history, period.

For this reason, expectations were high about how Guillermo del Toro would convey this sequence in his Frankenstein.

The setup for the Creature's resurrection is suitably bombastic, with Victor frantically running around Gothic architecture and electric cylinders while a storm brews outside. Despite being built up for seven minutes, the revival machine malfunctions, prompting a sullen Victor to retreat to his bedchambers. But when Victor awakens in the morning, he's greeted by his eight-foot-tall monster, curiously but timidly admiring his creator.

Now, having the procedure supposedly fail, only to reveal the Creature immediately after in such an unceremonious fashion could've come across as anticlimactic, but it works out for the better, since we see Victor's hopes being dashed, only for him to realise he has indeed fulfilled his dream. Although the Creature came across like a mindless brute in the prologue, we see a different side of him here, since he behaves like a child. On top of that, Victor's affection towards the Creature is tragic, since it's been established that the eccentric scientist will inevitably turn on him.
