10 Cancelled Horror Movies We'll Never Get To See

8. Urban Legend Reboot

In Jamie Blanks' 1998 Urban Legend, college students find themselves being tormented by a serial killer obsessed with, well, urban legends.

On paper, the teen horror sounded like it had potential, not just as a movie, but as an ongoing IP. With hundreds of creepy myths to incorporate, Urban Legend could've spawned a barrage of sequels. Unfortunately, not only was the first film underwhelming, but the follow-ups were noticeably worse.

With a wonky first movie and two dud sequels under its belt, Urban Legend went into a hiatus before it had a chance to really take off. However, the franchise appeared to receive a second life in 2020 when an Eli Roth-produced reboot was announced.

Although reboots have a habit of retreading old ground, the property now had even more urban legends than ever to draw upon, thanks to myths surrounding the internet, social media, and creepypastas. And when Grave Encounters co-director Colin Minihan was hired to oversee the project and the main characters were cast, the new Urban Legend seemed good to go.

Due to bad timing and a general lack of interest, though, Urban Legend eventually went dormant once more. Though the series could always return in the future, that won't be happening any time soon.
