10 Directors Who Could Take Over Avengers: Infinity War From Joss Whedon

4. Phil Lord & Chris Miller

The "Sony Hack" late last year proved that the studio have no real idea what they should do next with the Spider-Man franchise. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a critical and commercial disappointment, and Sony were seen to be considering everything from making a deal with Marvel Studios to hiring Phil Lord and Chris Miller for an animated movie. While handing the character to the men responsible for The LEGO Movie seems like a smart idea, it also feels like they duo would be wasted on that particular superhero as things stand (especially if Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are still in the background calling the shots). A much better comic book project for them then would be Avengers: Infinity War. Seeing two directors who are this talented and smart taking over the franchise would be no bad thing, and as big as the movie is, you have to believe that they could handle it as a team. Like Whedon (and Gunn), they know their way around humour, and they're pretty good with action too based on what we've seen in the Jump Street movies.
