10 Hidden Details In Movie Closing Scenes
6. Wall-E - No More Alaska
With Wall-E and EVE finally returning to Earth alongside a group of humans and robots, it looks as though this Pixar flick is set to end on a rather delightful note. Wall-E's personality has been restored by EVE and the Homo sapiens now look set to make the globe their home once again.
Yet, as the camera begins to pan back and we go from looking at the glimmers of green on the planet to a view of the entire globe from space, one harrowing detail is revealed.
Alaska is no more.
This is a very clear nod to the fact that sea levels must have risen due to global warming, meaning that in the 29th century Alaska is now completely submerged under ocean water.
Early in the movie it is made clear that Earth has been completely ruined by environmental neglect and consumerism, so robots like Wall-E were deployed to clean up the garbage engulfed planet. Yet, the lasting effects on other areas outside of Wall-E's section of the world aren't really touched upon in much detail until that lingering final shot of what is left of Earth.
