10 Horror Movies That Had TWO Incredible Villains
5. Valak & The Crooked Man - The Conjuring 2
James Wan's first Conjuring sequel is a heavyweight horror epic that boasts a number of standout set-pieces, while also introducing the world to two unforgettable antagonists.
Initially, we're led to believe that the movie's primary villain is the Enfield Poltergeist himself, Bill Wilkins (Bob Adrian), yet ultimately Wilkins is revealed to be an unwitting pawn in the scheme of the real antagonist - the demonic nun later named Valak (Bonnie Aarons).
Valak is straight-up terrifying, from her bone-chillingly ghoulish aesthetic to the all-timer set-piece where she emerges out of a painting and attacks Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga).
And given the audience's strong - that is, scared-to-hell - reaction to the character, she returned in the spin-off prequel The Nun, and will also appear in an upcoming Nun sequel.
There's another sub-villain in The Conjuring 2 who's tough to shake, though, and that's the Crooked Man.
Though technically another form assumed by Valak, the character's distinctive appearance - long, thin limbs encased inside a maroon suit, with a gigantic, gaping mouth - and tendency to creepily recite its namesake nursery rhyme, quickly made him another fan favourite antagonist.
In fact, the response to the Crooked Man was prominent enough that Wan originally planned a spin-off movie for the character, though Wan confirmed last year that the project has sadly been scrapped.
