Fantasy Casting: Richard Madden

With Captain America potentially leaving (although either Bucky or Falcon could inherit the title once Chris Evans going), now could be the perfect time to introduce Captain Britain. With several MCU characters based in the USA (and NYC particularly), bringing a new locale to the table can only be a good thing.

Captain Britain’s origin has been retconned a couple of times, with gentle tweaks taking it from slightly ridiculous to something much more conspiratorial. Initially it seemed he was chosen largely at random by the wizard Merlyn, but it transpires he actually inherits the title from his father, but it was not bestowed on him until he was ready.

It might seem difficult to get this sort of magic into the MCU, but they’ve said that about plenty of things before. Also, the fact that Captain Britain’s powers are tied to his emotions brings something new to the table, and lets us dig deep into the character.

Madden, with his experience from Game Of Thrones and The Bodyguard, seems a perfect fit. His gritty brand of heroism is much needed, and though he’s had a few Hollywood roles he’s yet to truly breakout from Robb Stark’s shadow.
