A Magnificent Seven remake starring Chris Pratt, Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke, Peter Sarsgaard, Vincent D'Onofrio, Matt Bomer and Byung Hun-Lee? Directed by Antoine Fuqua? Where do I sign? Expect there to be ballistic action sequences and the requisite amount of male bonding. There might even be a good dose of buddy-buddy humour, what with someone like Chris Pratt in the lead. No word on plot details as yet, but expect it to fall somewhere between John Sturges' 1960 original and the Akira Kurosawa Seven Samurai that inspired it. Westerns are making a fairly impressive comeback right now, as The Hateful Eight, Slow West and Bone Tomahawk have all proved. Considering the fact that the bar is set fairly high at the moment, the safe bet is that Fuqua is going to come out swinging. With a cast like that, it'd be extremely hard not to pull of a home run. Also, any movie that can re-team Denzel and Ethan after Training Day - with the same director, no less - has to be a surefire good time. The Magnificent Seven is due for release on 23 September.
