10 Movies With Questionable Moral Messages

8. If You Die Young, Mess With Your Widow's Head From Beyond The Grave - P.S. I Love You

P.S. I Love You P.S. I Love You revolves around Gerry (Gerard Butler) and Holly (Hilary Swank), a married couple very much in love when Gerry is struck down by a brain tumour. Holly retreats inward after his death, though on her 30th birthday starts to receive a series of messages from him, which he hopes will eventually help her to move on from him and perhaps find love with someone else. The film is thoroughly misguided, though, because what is actually seems to suggest is that if you die young, make sure that you stifle your widow's process of grieving and getting over you by saddling her with a series of ridiculous, time-consuming tasks. Rather than promote moving forward, the games cause Holly to pore over the time they've shared together, which surely is only going to put a grieving partner deeper down the hole, rendering her incapable of picking herself up and starting anew? Maybe that was really Gerry's plan all along, but within the sentiment of the movie, it comes off as horribly crass.
