Every couple of years Hollywood announces yet another big screen adaptation of one of the Bard’s classic plays. Shakespeare’s stories are universal and have made for some imaginative and well delivered retellings such as 10 Things I Hate About You (The Taming of the Shrew).
However, interest in more traditional retellings is often tepid, with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotilllard’s 2015 version receiving critical praise but flopping at the box-office. But this hasn’t stopped Hollywood believing that there is still life in these classic tales.
In a rare venture, acclaimed director and half of Coen Brother powerhouse Joel Coen will direct two time Oscar winners Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand in the upcoming tragedy.
Whilst little is known of how the eldest Coen brother will adapt Shakespeare’s classic work, it is thrilling enough just thinking of Frances McDormand laying down absolute fire when delivering Lady MacBeth’s iconic monologue.
“Is this a dagger which I see before me?”. No Frances but it could be a third Oscar…
