Another of the characters announced for the upcoming film is Yelena Belova. Based on the trailer, it appears that Natasha and Yelena will team up for the movie once they are reunited.

In the comics and presumably here, the spy had a similar upbringing as Natasha, as both were raised in the Red Room, a place visited in Avengers: Age of Ultron through illusions. The Red Room is also likely to feature in the upcoming film, which might give us an opportunity to see their relationship during those years. Yelena in the comics has been portrayed as an anti-hero, having represented HYDRA and A.I.M.

Just as Avengers: Endgame saw Steve Rogers passing the Captan America mantle onto Sam Wilson, Black Widow is also a title which has been passed onto other superheroes, including Yelena in the comics. Therefore, this movie could be an opportunity to establish the spy as a potential successor to the former avenger.

On the other hand, Yelena could become the anti-hero that Marvel will demand after the success of Tom Hiddleston’s character, Loki. Having worked for HYDRA and A.I.M in the comics, Yelena has tendencies to show an evil side. This film could demonstrate the character’s threat and build towards an anti-hero/villain team.

Rumours have been circulating for a few years of Norman Osborn’s entrance into the MCU, who has history of recruiting this agent into his team. Could Yelena become a member of the Thunderbolts or Dark Avengers in the coming phases?
