Joe Cornish's 2011 sci-fi comedy-horror film Attack the Block went down a treat with critics, though ultimately bombed at the box office and didn't find a wider audience until it hit home video.

Many discovered the film following star John Boyega's casting in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, and this past May, writer-director Cornish announced that a sequel was in development with Boyega set to return.

As exciting as the news was, it's not terribly easy to believe that Attack the Block 2 will really ever get made.

Even if you can accept that the original film eventually became profitable thanks to home video, there's one recent development that could give involved production companies and distributors a moment for pause.

Mere weeks after Attack the Block 2 was announced, Boyega infamously quit his new thriller film Rebel Ridge mid-production amid non-specific "family issues," with rumours implying Boyega's own unpredictable behaviour may have been to blame.

Naturally this may make producers wary of working with Boyega right now if he's got things going on in his personal life, and so it'd be easy to see Attack the Block 2 enter development hell due to the uncertainty surrounding the Rebel Ridge incident.
