Mission Impossible 6: 10 Things It Must Address
8. Give Simon Pegg's Benji A Personal Life
Believe it or not, not every single hacker, computer geek, or IT employee sits around playing HALO in his or her spare time, let along while at work - so why insult the audience and continue to play the otherwise fun character that is Benji as a complete stereotype?
One of the most likable actors on either side of the Atlantic, Simon Pegg has done an admirable job with his role in the IMF films, making it feel like there is an actual team behind Ethan Hunt (along with Ving Rhames), rather than these movies just being Tom Cruise action vehicles. However, a little bit of a life outside hacking and computers would be a nice touch for Benji at this point.
Give the guy a girlfriend, boyfriend, something. A hobby that doesn't involve sitting in front of a screen.
That said, Pegg is as dependable as always in Rogue Nation, bringing comedy when needed, and even getting into the action with a little hand-to-hand combat, so really, the character hasn't really gone stale - there could just be much more done with him.
