Mission Impossible 6: 10 Things It Must Address
7. Give Jeremy Renner's Brandt Something To Do
Speaking of stale: Will Jeremy Renner continue to be basically useless in not one but two franchises?
Sure, fine, he had a better role in Age of Ultron than the first Avengers movie. That said, he's still the guy on The Avengers who shoots arrows and runs around a lot while fighting alongside people/beings with actual super powers. And in the Mission Impossible series, he has become that guy who talks on the phone a lot and goes to meetings. Like your boss, but cooler, because he's Jeremy Renner, but unless Brandt, Renner's character in the series, is given a decent action piece or at least something interesting to do, and soon, he'll quickly lose that cool factor.
Really, Renner/Brandt was at one point being eyeballed to carry the series should Cruise exit or be cut loose. Paramount seemed very keen to get him on board, yet he seems to be wasting away in the franchise.
It appears as if Joss Whedon isn't the only one who has struggled (repeatedly) to utilize Renner's talents.
