Whilst filming The Thin Red Line, Nick Nolte, Woody Harrelson and Sean Penn were caught up in their very own elaborate prank war that went way too far in the end.

During filming in Australia in 1998, Harrelson threw the first stone by putting pre-chewed gum into Penn's prop helmet, and even threw a real life snake into Penn's trailer. To get revenge on Harrelson, Penn went through an incredible amount of trouble to organise a Woody Harrelson day at a local park which involved thousands of flyers and a radio announcement. When Harrelson went to the park, he was swarmed by adoring fans, completely unaware of what was going on.

Harrelson, however, definitely had the last laugh by recruiting Nick Nolte to call Penn, asking him to bail him out of prison. Not only was Nolte in on the prank, but Harrelson took it that little bit further by also paying two police officers to make it seem like there was a hostage situation happening with Nolte. One of said cops even put a gun to Penn's head during the exchange.

Penn eventually left the station to find Harrelson standing there with his camera, ready to capture the look on his face.

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
