3. Taskmaster (Black Widow)
Taskmaster is a great antagonist in the source material. He is ironically completely unique in that he copies the moves and fighting styles of those around him. The trailers for Black Widow promised something similar for the MCU version of the character, but when the movie released, fans were left bitterly disappointed.
The promise of someone who mimicked the likes of Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Panther, and Black Widow herself, with the whole mystery of whose face was behind the mask, made Taskmaster one of the most anticipated aspects of the entire Black Widow movie.
There were fan theories that ranged from it being Clint, to Rick Mason, to even a clone of Natasha, but the reveal that it was Dreykov’s daughter was painfully underwhelming. MCU fans had never had the chance to connect or form attachments to the character, so no one really cared that she was Taskmaster.
She was essentially just a glorified henchman of her father’s, and even the tie to Natasha’s past, something that was at least alluded to previously in the MCU, held little in terms of the emotional impact it was clearly supposed to.
