11 Predictions For DC’s 2 Mystery Comic Book Movies
3. Lobo
Since 2012, a Lobo movie has been circling the big Development Hell drain. It was originally supposed to be directed by Brad Peyton and Dwayne The Rock Johnson had been in talks to star, but in 2014 it was announced as all but dead. Could a left-field revival be on the cards?
It might seem a stretch too far, but you shouldn't rule out the appeal of an R-Rated movie in the wake of Deadpool's success. That unlikely win proved that audiences would respond to a well-marketed outrageous superhero movie and that comic books didn't necessarily need to mean "mainstream" for audiences.
That's precisely the kind of context that a Lobo movie could flourish in: the anti-hero bounty hunter is the stuff of R-Rated dreams and the currently high stock of Deadpool, Wolverine and Punisher (the latter two who Lobo was basically ripped off) could be used as evidence of his bankability too.
Probability: 3/10
The Deadpool factor might well be a compelling one, but there have been way too many R-Rated comic book movies that have failed for DC to really consider this one as a banker in a period of flux.
Like it or not, the DC universe does need to get a move on with their off-shoots and more out there choices, and Lobo would be a hell of a way to do it.
