12 Defining Moments From The Scream Franchise

1. The First Rule Of Remakes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EMMhsFG0X4 Wes Craven brilliantly presents a false ending in Scream 4 with the kitchen sequence, as Jill stages the murder scene and appears to have executed her plan perfectly. She's going to be seen as the Sidney of a new generation, and it's as if she just created for herself a whole new series of Scream sequels. But then Craven says screw that and completely turns the sequel hook ending on its head. Sidney is actually still alive, and Jill visits her in the hospital to finish the job. But by doing this, Jill has officially strayed from the formula of the original Scream, and that's something you can't do in a remake. You have to just do the exact same thing over and over. Sidney kills Jill and reminds her that she forgot the first rule of remakes: "Don't f*** with the original." The whole remake angle with this film is absolutely genius, and Craven justifies the idea of returning to the franchise after 10 years. It's the perfect ending that basically offers a giant middle finger to the idea of doing another Scream series, ending things once and for all. If Sidney could see what MTV is doing now, she probably wouldn't be happy.
