3. Creed

The Movie: Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station) directs Michael B. Jordan as he plays the grandson of late boxer Apollo Creed (played by Carl Weathers in the Rocky movies), who looks to become a boxer with the help of retired champ Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone). Why The Fanboys Will Hate It: Because Rocky's story was finally given a satisfying conclusion with Rocky Balboa, and now this movie is just going to open all that up again. While his status as a supporting character pretty much ensures his legacy won't be completely tarnished once more, it just seems kinda lazy to make a spin-off about the young relative of one of the series' best characters. And why isn't Carl Weathers in it? Will It Succeed Anyway?: It's tough to say. Stallone might help push the box office north, though it's hard to expect much beyond adequate either critically or commercially.
