15 Actors You Didn't Know Almost Played Superman

9. Al Pacino

Another Godfather alumni linked to the role because of the Marlon Brando/Mario Puzo connection. What Happened? Back when the Salkinds were pretty much linking every actor, body builder, singer and boxer to their Superman project - probably in the hopes of whipping up a storm of anticipation for it - Pacino was one of the giant string of actors who was considered for the role. Despite having worked with Brando and original scripter Puzo on The Godfather, Pacino didn't get the gig. Thankfully. Would He Have Worked? He might have once been a fine actor - not any more sadly - but Pacino was far from the right candidate for this particular role. Superman is about as famous for his intensity as he is his pink hair and snorkel, and the idea of Pacino bringing his shouty, angry routine to Kal-El is a little offensive. It might have worked well in other roles, but sometimes actors just aren't the right fit.
