12. Rocky Dies - Creed II

Though Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) appeared to triumph over non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at the end of the first Creed, fans were understandably anxious that, in an act of passing the torch to Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan), Stallone might kill his most iconic creation in the sequel.

Whether felled by a recurrence of his illness or otherwise, Rocky dying and leaving Adonis without a mentor certainly would've had poetic, tragic echoes of Mickey's (Burgess Meredith) death in Rocky III.

Thankfully, though, that wasn't the case, and Rock appears to be back in good health by the time the movie begins. There's not even a hint of him circling the drain in Creed II, with Stallone instead transitioning fully into the sage trainer role with sure dignity.

This should probably be the end-point for the character and the franchise, though.
