15 Things Horror Remakes Did Better Than The Original

Rob Zombie's 2007 Halloween remake gets far more hate than it deserves since it's an OK-enough modern slasher film that offers some good thrills and character moments. It does ruin Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor Compton) but it also upgrades two of the original's side characters, Annie Brackett and her father, Sheriff Leigh Brackett.

In the original, Annie (Nancy Kyes) was very irritating, but Rob Zombie's remakes offered a far better version of the character, who was played by franchise veteran Danielle Harris.

She's very likeable and engaging, while Harris does a remarkably good job with her and gives a far better performance than the material demanded. She also returned in Rob Zombie's sequel to his remake in 2009. She was one of the few bright spots in that one and as such, her eventual death at the hands of Michael Myers was far more affecting than most slasher movie deaths.

Similarly, Leigh Brackett (Charles Cyphers) is OK in the original, but he's great in the remakes. He's superbly played by horror icon Brad Dourif and is given more nuance and depth this time around.
