12. Slumber Party Massacre II (Deborah Brock, 1987)
Slumber Party Massacre II picks up where the first supposed-to-be feminist driller killer slasher film left off. It focuses on a girl named Courtney, who is the younger sister of the "new girl across the street" (who killed the killer) from the first film, now in her teenage years. Courtney plays guitar in an all-female 80's band with 3 of her friends. She seems to be suffering from some sort of PTSD from the incident in the first film. As, when she is invited to spend a weekend at an empty condo in a new subdivision that is owned by one of her friends' parents, she starts to become haunted by nightmares about the guy her sister killed- who now wields a pretty badass guitar-drill weapon. It's pretty much the most ridiculous weapon I've ever seen in a horror film...ever. While at the condo they bust out into the usual slumber party related activities: raiding the liquor closet, topless pillow fights, song and dance routines....that sort of thing. But when two of the boys show up, Courtney starts to have vivid hallucinations which she perceives to be real...and keeps calling wolf on them. It keeps on like this for a while until her love interest shows up, and she goes to sleep with him. Suddenly, the killer of her dreams becomes manifest and drills her boyfriend to death with his guitar-drill...while playing a killer lick. The killer then goes on a vengeful spree, hunting down and killing all of Courtney's friends...when he's not too busy rocking out song and dance numbers, that is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXTmWsD-p98 This film tries to be a clever psychological thriller. But it's not. Rather, there are whole segments where it busts out into an MTV style music video, for no apparent reason. The whole thing ends up being a weird blend of slasher film and 80's rock musical. But, with that being said, few slasher films have managed to achieve what this film has, in regards to the utterly bizarre killer and his weapon of choice....while sucking so hard at the same time.
