11. Rubber (Quentin Dupieux, 2011)
This film is about a psychopathic tire that seems to possess the abilities of a "Scanner" (see Cronenberg's Scanners)- mainly, the ability to explode small animals and peoples' heads via some sort of telekinetic force. Like many serial killers, who enjoy the act of killing, the killer tire starts off with animal slaughter and graduates to exploding people's heads. Not much else goes on in the film actually. There's a couple people that are watching the tire do it's murder-thing from the sidelines, while giving their lawn chair commentary. But eventually they too die...and the film ends. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G5pyFhmAqE It's not a long film, for good reason...there's no real story. It's not trying to conceal some underlying social commentary or anything. It's just a ridiculously dumb film about a tire that kills, with no apparent motive- except for the sake of killing. At least the DVD has one of those cool covers where the picture moves when you move it from side to side...
