5. Wonder Woman Is The First Major Comic Book Movie Directed By A Woman
The Moment: Ignoring the flop that was Punisher: War Zone, Wonder Woman will be the first significant comic book movie directed by a woman, after Warner Bros. recently appointed Patty Jenkins to take the job following Michelle MacLaren's departure amid creative differences. It'll be a hallmark moment for gender quality given how few women are given the chance to direct blockbuster movies, and hopefully the script and marketing will be there to support Jenkins' effort. When It Will Happen: June 23, 2017. Why It Will Define The Movie: Because Wonder Woman is the first major female-led comic book movie since 2005's risible Elektra, and so it follows that the movie is going to be all about the women, as it absolutely should be. Plus, if DC nails Wonder Woman's solo film, they'll have beaten Marvel to the punch by over a year, as their first female-led MCU movie, Captain Marvel, won't hit screens until November 2018. As DC will feel immense pressure to compete with Marvel, this could be a major feather in their cap.
