Nehemiah Persoff's career could easily trace the trends of Hollywood, as he appeared in so many productions, starting as early as the 1940s. He appeared in the Next Generation episode The Most Toys as Palor Toff, the iconic metal-faced alien collector. This image was so iconic that it has recently seen a resurgence in Lower Decks.

Persoff's credits are, quite frankly, too many to list here. He was a prolific actor, making his break in the industry by playing tough guys and ruffians. He appeared in Some Like It Hot as a gangster, and would also appear in the iconic I Could Have Been A Contender scene in On The Waterfront.

As the years went by, he began to change his image from tough guy to a kinder, softer persona. Many of his later roles would see him as the father and grandfather type. Though many who saw the film may not have connected the voice to Star Trek, he performed the role of Papa Mousekewitz in the American Tail series of films.

His health declined in his later years, so he stepped away from acting in 1999. Instead, he concentrated on painting, creating many beautiful pieces of art. He and his wife, Thia, married in 1951 and remained so for an incredible 70 years, until her death in 2021.

Persoff died at age 102, from heart failure. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living male performer to have appeared in Star Trek.
