50 Huge Movie Characters That Were Completely Miscast
23. Christopher Walken As The Emperor - Dune: Part Two
Denis Villeneuve's Dune remake has one hell of an impressive cast list, which somehow grew to be even more impressive with the release of the sequel. Dune: Part Two added Anya Taylor-Joy, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, and Christopher Walken, although the latter didn't exactly light up the screen like many may have expected.
Walken entered the franchise to portray the Emperor, the powerful, and previously mentioned but not seen ruler of the Known Universe, and with such a big name attached to such a character, who wouldn't have been excited? However, with the minimal screen time given, Walken's performance left a lot to be desired.
With the man, you can usually expect some form of the eccentricity and energy that he is known for, while he is able to seamlessly weave in the kind of intensity that could have made the Emperor a great new addition to the franchise.
Instead however, the character was a strangely subdued, almost watered-down version of both the character from the source material, and the actor himself. Arguably, this did give more space for Florence Pugh to shine as the Emperor's daughter, but if this was the plan then there was no need to bring in Christopher Walken. He was wasted in a role that could have, and should have, made a bigger impression on the audience.
