50 Infuriating Horror Movie Characters We All Secretly Wanted To Die
46. Black Phone 2 - Barbara
Black Phone 2 is a sequel no-one asked for, so it was a pleasant surprise that it was actually perfectly alright. Nonetheless, there's a particular supporting character who'll drive viewers a bit crazy, and that's Barbara (Maev Beaty).
She's one of the staff members at the Christian youth camp where the bulk of the movie's action is set, and she's the requisite jerk character of the picture. A needlessly rude person, she spends the movie undermining the main characters and being a coward who refuses (initially) to participate in the search for some murdered children on account of protagonist Gwen (Madeleine McGraw) being possessed by the devil or some nonsense like that.
She's the kind of character many similar films would serve up as dead meat for the antagonist, but no, she actually makes it to the end. The Grabber (Ethan Hawke) does injure her during the climax; that's as far as it goes, with her and her (less irritating) husband Kenneth (Graham Abbey) not being shown after the Grabber's defeat, indicating that they probably survived.
Honestly, it would've been better if they had perished, as the way in which the Grabber doesn't kill anyone in the present day made the film feel a tad too low-stakes. Still, we do get Gwen calling her a "c**t-wagon" (whatever that means!), which was probably the funniest moment in the movie.
