7 Reasons Ben Affleck Will Be The Best Movie Batman
4. The Whole Look Is Radically Different (And Much Closer To The Comics)
For all its clunkiness, my favourite Batsuit is and always will be Keaton's 1989 suit. The '89 movie set the unwritten rule that the Batsuit should be a black, hulking piece of armour; it made sense with Keaton's Bruce Wayne, because he was an average sized guy who needed to look frightening to the criminals he was facing. Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight brought a more realistic take on the suit, but it still just felt like treading the same ground over and over. The use of a cloth suit (finally) in Batman v Superman roots Affleck's Batman very much in the comic book world that we grew up reading and loving. Throw in that he has arguably the best fitting jawline out of any of the live action actors to have worn the suit, and you really begin to feel that this guy is the definitive comic book movie Batman. The addition of the heavily armoured suit for the final battle, and the glowing eyes hark back to the comics and keep the core base of the fans, the comic book readers, infinitely happy. The typical conventions of what Batman should look like in a movie adaptation have been tossed aside, and this now opens up a whole world of possible looks we could see the Caped Crusader donning in the future. Affleck seems to have also nailed the voice whilst he's in the suit; whether it be through his own doing or (as rumours seem to be pointing towards) Bruce Wayne has a voice modulator built into his suit, the ghost of Bale's ever more ridiculous Bat-voice has finally been exorcised.
