9 Movie Sequels That Ruined Great Characters

1. Darth Vader – The Star Wars Prequels

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away there once lived a formidable villain called Darth Vader. Clad entirely in black with an intimidatingly raspy voice and usually wielding a lightsabre at some poor innocent, he was once described by Obi-Wan Kenobi as “twisted and evil” and inspired fear in the hearts of millions.

At least that was until George Lucas released that cursed prequel trilogy. Gone was the mystique of the ruthless villain replaced instead with an annoying, blonde-haired moppet who grew into a whiny little bitch of a young man.

Now it’s hard to think of one of cinema’s most iconic villains without also seeing Jake Lloyd squealing “Yippee” or Hayden Christensen awkwardly trying to flirt with Padmé Amidala with the line “I don’t like sand”.

But such is the danger of adding a lengthy backstory to a character once shrouded in mystery. Cheers, George Lucas.
