9 Movies To Watch If You Loved Squid Game
4. The Last Of Sheila (1973)
Similar in it's 'who-dunnit' vibes to the aforementioned And Then There Were None, The Last Of Sheila gives us a slightly more aggressive take on crime and punishment. Just as we've now come to expect, this murderous game takes place in a slightly odd setting: the story centres on a group of friends who reunite for a boat trip together.
They all agree to take part in a parlour game, seeming innocent enough on the surface. The game's participants are given 'made up' secrets they must keep hidden from other players, whilst also endeavouring to uncover their fellow participants own secrets.
Spoiler alert: the secrets aren't as far removed from reality as we thought, and as soon as people begin to realise this the tension starts building.
It's not as simple a game premise as Squid Game but if you're interested in seeing an older, lesser-appreciated mystery play out then give it a chance. You'll get your fill of deaths, twist reveals and multi-layered characters, all whilst getting the self-satisfaction of getting to add an underhyped classic movie to your Letterboxd.
