9 Positive Realisations From Re-Watching Star Wars: The Last Jedi
2. Luke's Showdown Is An Amazing Display Of Power
When Luke finally shows up on Crait to join Leia and the Resistance, it feels as if this film is just getting back on track - to where so many of the fans wanted it to go at least. He's joined them, he's even taken the time to make himself look more powerful and better groomed. He's clearly about to show Kylo who exactly is boss around here.
And then it turns out he's a projection.
And then he dies.
Without doubt, the vast majority of people hoped for more physical action. They wanted to see a showdown similar to the great Force and lightsaber battles that have gone before in the galaxy far, far away. They didn't get that, and went home disappointed. Once again, though, when you know what to expect, this scene feels so different. Watch it again, and consider how effective it actually is - even if it's not what you wanted.
Here, Luke is the epitome of confidence - he's just so very assured. Kylo blasts him with every single gun the First Order has amassed, and Luke literally brushes it off. He's mastered his abilities, worked through his self-loathing and doubt, and even expanded the Force as we know it. On second viewing, knowing that it won't be an epic duel, it's clear how well shot and put together it is. He'll also clearly be back - "See you around kid," he threatens a frustrated and bewildered Kylo.
