Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania Review - 5 Ups & 5 Downs
3. The Script Is An Unambitious Mess
While none of the Ant-Man movies boast great scripts, the first two at least had the good sense not to take themselves too seriously while touting a pretty high hit ratio where their comedy was concerned.
But Quantumania's screenplay from Jeff Loveness - who, worryingly, is also writing Avengers: The Kang Dynasty - is an abject mess.
In terms of humour, this is incredibly uneven - the biggest laughs generally stem from the sheer deranged weirdness of the scenario, and a few inspired one-liners given to characters like Quaz, Veb, and Hank Pym, but otherwise there's a lot here that just doesn't hit at all.
And dramatically, the film feels so undercooked, relying so much on outrageous amounts of exposition and dull placeholder dialogue to get the job done, while categorically failing in its primary objective - make general audiences give a damn about Kang.
