Avatar: The Last Airbender - 7 Things That Need To Be In The Live Action Series
2. Attention Paid To The Bending
In a show about bending the elements, there should be scenes that show off said bending. Shocking, I know.
The show creators have said that each bending type is based on various different martial arts fighting styles. Waterbending is based on Tai Chi Chuan, earthbending on Hung Ga Kung Fu, firebending on Northern Shaolin Kung Fu, and airbending on Baguazhang. With that much attention to detail having been paid, the best thing for the live action series to do is to follow suit.
Each actor whose character has a bending ability should be trained, even briefly, under the corresponding martial arts style before filming. The choreography should also emulate these fighting styles. We should notice a difference between the way Katara bends vs. the way Zuko bends.
Well done CGI is also an issue. Without it, the show will be laughable every time anyone uses their abilities. On the other hand, if done correctly, the CGI could take our breath away. Hopefully, Netflix will give them a big enough budget to do this right.
