2. Axe Fight
The trailer for Bullet to the Head hints at something that I can't say I've seen in any action films recently...or come to think of it, ever. Stallone and adversary Jason Mamoa take to behaving like complete barbarians (appropriate for the man to don the sword of Conan just a few years ago) and pick up axes for what will either be the corniest third act of an action film or one of the coolest and most original. Remember, Walter Hill is behind the camera. So, if anyone can direct and shoot two he men fighting with axes and get the tone just right it would be the guy that pulled off a B- classic with The Warriors. We've seen Stallone fire a pistol like a machine gun (The Expendables), shoot a fifty Cal. (Rambo) and turn his fists into weapons (any Rocky film), but the axe seems like a new touch. And if you're smirking and shaking your head, just ask yourself: could Robert De Niro pull it off? Then again, I'm sure the Raging Bull doesn't need to. He's fine where he is. But, perhaps Stallone and De Niro can settle my imaginary tiff when they face off in Grudge Match later this year. In the meantime, I wanna seem some axes thrown and Bullet to the Head is the only movie offering something like that.
