Comic Con 2018: 10 Things We Wanted Announced (But Weren't)

5. Next Star Wars Spin-off

The other most notable absence from Comic-Con this year besides Marvel's was Lucasfilm's.

Aside from the tenth anniversary Clone Wars panel and some publishing-related announcements, little was said at all about the state of Lucasfilm's film slate. Which is strange, considering that with Solo's release now out of the way, the studio will have to work fast to keep up its one-a-year release schedule.

2019 is set to see the release of Star Wars: Episode IX but everything after that remains completely uncharted. Higher-ups at the studio have teased the idea of benching the Skywalker Saga films in favor of sticking strictly to spin-offs, such as the already announced Rian Johnson trilogy, the trilogy of films that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are working on, or James Mangold's Boba Fett film.

Yet, nothing was said at Comic-Con. Considering that audiences know next-to-nothing about any of these films, their place on the canonical timeline, or even their release dates, Comic-Con would have been the perfect place to announce what spin-off would be coming next. Considering that spin-offs like Rouge One and Solo were announced years before their release dates, it just seems a bit strange to continue to be so mum about what the future holds.
