4. Why Marvel Chose Benedict Cumberbatch
Many fans have been critical of Marvel's decision to cast Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. After talks with Joaquin Phoenix seemingly fell apart, the studio were accused of going with a "safe" choice by casting the Sherlock star, especially as he was a fan favourite suggestion to take on the role of the Sorcerer Supreme long before Marvel even announced Doctor Strange's release date as part of Phase 3. " was someone that we were very interested in for a very long time," Feige said of his desire to cast the British actor in the role. "But he kept getting more popular, and more popular, and he kept getting busier, and busier, and it looked like the timing wasnt going to work.
