Every James Bond Finale Ranked
16. Dr No - Dr No's Facility
The first Bond ending is a decidedly more low-key affair than many of the subsequent ones, but that's not a bad thing. Bond's escape from his cell and his subsequent foiling of Dr No's (Joseph Wiseman) plans is still a very suspenseful collection of scenes and it's refreshing just how grounded the whole thing is, especially considering how nutty some Bond finales are.
As well as this, even though the film will soon turn 60 the visuals have aged remarkably well and the sets (courtesy of the masterful Ken Adams, who worked a lot on the earlier Bond films) that these scenes unfold in are wonderful too and this further enhances the action.
It's not a perfect ending, since the fight between Dr No and Bond could've been longer and Bond Girl Honey Ryder (Ursula Andress) is almost entirely absent despite being the secondary character, but overall this is a good conclusion to the first film in the series.
After the finale, the film also established a common Bond trope in the series - Bond ends the film making out with the Bond Girl and often gets humorously caught in the act by his superiors. Dr No offers one of the least memorable examples of this in its final moments.
