Everything We Know About The X-Men & Fantastic Four In The MCU

5. Deadpool Is Expected To Be The Only Character Who Survives A Reboot

X-Men MCU
Disney & Fox

One of the biggest questions surrounding the merger is whether or not the current X-Men characters will be rebooted, or integrated into the MCU as they are. While nothing has been confirmed yet, the former option does seem more likely at this stage, with one notable exception: Deadpool.

Embedded in that aforementioned THR report is a quick line about the future of the X-Men in the MCU: more specifically, the likelihood that Deadpool will be the only character to survive the transition in his current form:

"Reynolds' Deadpool is expected to be the only iteration of the X-Men to make the jump to Disney, with Disney CEO Bob Iger having confirmed multiple times that a popular, R-rated version of the character could exist at the studio."

And Iger has indeed discussed the idea of keeping Deadpool intact - in all his R-rated glory - over at Disney. On another investor call (via Variety), the CEO stated that "we will continue in that [Deadpool] business", and that Disney's R-rated content will be "carefully" branded to ensure it doesn't confuse customers.

What this probably means is that the Deadpool films will exist under their own banner, separate from Disney's other PG-13 superheroes.

And as if we needed more confirmation that Disney loves a bit of Deadpool, the character is currently the only Fox-Marvel hero to appear on the company's website header. Subtle.
