How Avengers: Endgame Was Almost Completely Different
1. Heimdall Vs Tony Stark And No Battle Of New York (2012)
With a sprawling back catalogue of movies, time zones, and Infinity Stone locations to choose from, the choices for Avengers: Endgame's time heist were practically endless - so the writing of the movie took some pulling together to pick the most perfect moments. Before we got the run down that we did however, there was talk of Tony Stark heading to Asgard in his stealth suit, forgetting there's one man who invisibility proves no obstacle for: Heimdall. That meant the pair would have to throw down across the Nine Realms for Mr Stark to get the stone back.
The screenwriters wanted to avoid being "too obvious" and "pander-y", which is why they opted for far more difficult scenarios in Asgard rather than just giving everyone what they wanted to see. McFeely stated: "In the first draft, we didn’t go back to the [original] “Avengers” movie," which is absolute madness.
Markus elaborated that the Avengers "went to the Triskelion at one point to get the [Tesseract], and then somebody was going to get into a car and drive to Doctor Strange's house." Even Morag was made far more complicated, with McFeely exclaiming "It was underwater!", but just quite what they were doing didn't seem right for the movie.
In the end, they overcame their qualms with going back to the first team-up film when Joe Russo pointed out they could just easily use the clearest option available to them to make it work. It all makes sense now, but we still really want to see whatever the hell would have gone on in the sea, to be honest.
