7. Great Lakes Avengers
Kicking off the trio of Avengers-lite teams here with one of the weirdest ones ever.
Is there room for the Great Lakes Avengers when we already have the Guardians and potentially the Asgardians? Perhaps not, given they all share a similarly strange sense of humour, and the MCU rarely plays things entirely straight in any case.
Still though, the Great Lakes Avengers are so bizarre (and unlike the Galaxy teams, are Earth based) that with the right cast, director and script, they could bring a new dimension to the MCU.
Several of their members like Mister Immortal and Squirrel Girl were due to appear in the TV series Marvel’s New Warriors. However, that was due to premiere in 2018 and is still yet to materialise; whether this makes the characters more or less likely to get a shot at a movie though is anyone’s guess.
The Great Lakes Avengers were trained by Hawkeye and Mockingbird, so it might be a great way for Hawkeye to officially bow out and pass the torch to a successor.
They’re certainly weird, but ten years ago the idea of Guardians Of The Galaxy being one of Marvel’s most popular movies would’ve been ridiculous. Stranger things have happened.
