Once Upon A Deadpool Review: 4 Ups & 5 Downs

3. It's Still Surprisingly Violent

Even with the PG-13 rating, you'd be surprised at just how much the movie gets away with. In addition to the frequent utterances of "s***" and a clever expletive-bleeping gag where the implication is insanely clear, a lot of violence still made it into this movie.

Deadpool's various dismemberments are still depicted in a surprising amount of detail, even if the blood has mostly been digitally removed, lending it an odd cartoonish quality.

The same is true of the iconic X-Force sequence, which benefits from most of the superhero deaths being fairly low on grisly injury detail anyway.

Yes, the third act suffers the most with the judicious edits, but for the most part this feels like an extremely tough PG-13, with crunchy sound effects being retained in the mix and evoking a visceral feel even when the impact and damage is only implied visually.

It's kind of a shame the re-cut didn't get more creative with cleverly using CGI to obscure some of the gnarlier sequences, but the action still feels surprisingly impactful despite the obvious edits.
