Predicting The 10 Biggest Box Office Bombs Of 2019

5. Captive State

Budget: $25 million

Box Office Prediction: $35 million (projected $15 million loss)

Rupert Wyatt's sci-fi actioner sure looks impressively produced considering its mere $25 million budget, but even with a pedigree filmmaker and a cast headlined by John Goodman and Vera Farmiga, scheduling looks set to doom Captive State regardless of how well it reviews.

In addition to releasing the same day as Tim Burton's Dumbo (March 29), it also lands a week before Shazam!, with both films likely to cut off Captive State's box office legs before it can even learn to crawl.

At least the losses won't break the bank for Focus Features, even if it's totally foolish not to push the film back into the summer. Don't be surprised if this reviews solidly and ends up a cult classic on home video, but its theatrical prospects are in the toilet.
