Ranking Every Billion Dollar Movie - From Worst To Best
14. The Dark Knight Rises
Box Office: $1,084,939,099
The Dark Knight Rises was a disappointment ONLY in comparison with what came immediately before it, but that might well have always been the case. Thanks to the mythology around Heath Ledger's death, that film became something more than it was originally destined to be, and while it's excellent, that rather unfairly skewed expectations around its sequel.
Still, the end of Nolan's trilogy is still a great achievement in film-making, delivering on the mythology of both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, and taking Bruce Wayne's arc to its most natural conclusion. Well, this Bruce Wayne anyway (as there's no way the realone would turn his back on the Bat-job).
There are problems that are amplified by the rest of the series' towering highs though: the editing is poor at times, there are huge story issues (both inconsistencies and glaring plot holes) and the best villain putside of Ledger's Joker in the series ends up being balled up and cast aside in the name of story. Even then, they're not at all fatal.
