14. The Ritual

Box Office: The mid-budget British horror has grossed just $983,097 on its UK release, and with not much of an international release in sight, its most likely hope is to get sold off to streaming services ASAP. Not a hit, then.

Verdict: Though this isn't the most inspired or memorable effort from Southbound director David Bruckner, The Ritual does nevertheless offer up just enough to differentiate itself from seemingly similar in-the-woods horror flicks.

Rafe Spall gives a compelling central performance as a man haunted by personal demons, and though it's hard to call the film much scary, it does go to a few unexpected places, and oozes uneasy style throughout.

Nobody would blame you for missing it at the cinema, but a decent rental in a few months? Absolutely.
