Sandy Wexler Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs
2. The Totally Creepy Third Act
This film takes one Hell of a dive into legitimately unsettling, dark territory in its third act. A man commits suicide out of nowhere, a wedding is broken up complete with a bout of mansplaining, and Sandler even sings his way through part of the closing credits.
It's all a bit nauseating, to be honest, and feels rather at odds with the daft but relatively harmless preceding 90 minutes. The left-turn into darker and creepier material doesn't feel earned or justified, especially as characters react to horrific events with unexpected indifference and even joy in some cases. Perhaps it's an attempt to satirise the cut-throat nature of Hollywood, but it ends up mostly missing the mark.
Some might find the final half-hour at least disarmingly weird compared to the banality that came before, while for others it'll simply further their hatred.
